Sembcorp has started work on a 60MW floating solar project in Singapore. Sembcorp confirmed the start of construction work on the landmark project last week, six months after the firm was selected by Singapore's National Water Agency PUB to develop what will be among the world's largest inland floating solar installations.

Each generating unit is expected to be at least 600 mega-watts (MW) in generation capacity. Singapore's electricity demand has been steadily increasing over the years, driven largely by electricity-intensive sectors such as the advanced manufacturing, digital economy, and transport sectors.
Based on EMA's projections, Singapore's power system peak demand is expected to grow by at least 3.7% over the next six years, reaching between 10.1 gigawatt (GW) and 11.8 GW by 2030.
