The computer will only pull the amps it needs. If you have a power supply with very close voltage and more amps rating, you should be fine (check your tip polarity as well!!!). If the power supply you use has less amps or different voltage than what the laptop needs, you could damage the laptop or it may just not bootup/charge the battery.
It is possible if it burnt the motherboard especially you may see burnt traces on the board. A Good PSU will not take out the rest of your equipment when failing and that Corsair you have is a good one, that said your issue may not be that the PSU blew everything up, but something else that caused a short to blow the PSU up.
Probably incorrect voltage or the wrong polarity, which will fry the board. As long as voltage and polarity is the same and the amps are bigger on the power supply, the laptop shouldn't care. Of course you are doing all of this at your own risk But I generally follow these rules and haven't had problems yet.

The charger will never provide more than the rated wattage, and as such, there is no higher risk of failure. On the other hand, if you use a 45w on your MacBook Pro, which requires an 85w charger while you are playing a game or editing video (using 100% CPU and/or GPU), your battery will still drain but at a must slower rate.
