The solar panel connector is used to interconnect solar panels in PV installations. Their main task is ensuring power continuity and electricity flow throughout the whole solar array. There are many types of solar connectors in the market, but the most popular option available is the MC4 connector.
Types of PV Wire Connectors There are two primary types of PV wire connectors commonly used in solar panel installations: MC4 Connectors: MC4 (Multi-Contact 4) connectors are the most widely used connectors in the solar industry. They feature a snap-in locking mechanism, ensuring a secure and reliable connection.
The steps to add solar connectors to PV wires are the following: Strip the wire. Place the connecting plate on it and use the crimping tool. Insert the lower components of the connector (terminal cover, strain reliever, and compression sleeve). Insert the upper components (safety foil, male/female MC4 connector housing, O-ring).
Wiring solar panels together can be done with pre-installed wires at the modules, but extending the wiring to the inverter or service panel requires selecting the right wire. For rooftop PV installations, you can use the PV wire, known in Europe as TUV PV Wire or EN 50618 solar cable standard.
