Free QuoteDue to its flexible site layout, fast construction cycle and other advantages, the installed capacity of lithium-ion battery energy storage system is expected to catch up with pumping storage. In 2023, the application of 100 MW level energy storage projects has been realised with a cost ranging from ¥1400 to ¥2000 per kWh.
Energy storage devices are limited in the amount of power they can store and charging power cannot exceed their maximum storage capacity. In this paper, it is assumed that if the port chooses to configure its energy storage devices, it can only select one type of energy storage device and will not choose more than that.
Projections indicate that by 2030, the unit capacity cost of lithium-ion battery energy storage is expected to be lower than pumping storage, reaching approximately ¥500–700 per kWh, and per kWh cost is close to ¥0.1 every time.
Under the OFFG operation with the SNG and WNG scenarios, the PRES is configured with 3.6MW and 80MW energy storage devices, respectively, resulting in an average annual SSR that is 0.85% and 3.06% higher than that of its counterpart under the ONG operation, respectively.
Generally, the port throughput is assumed to increase year by year, with the highest port load demand observed in the last year of the planning period. If the planned PRES can meet the reliability requirements of energy supply in the final year, it is expected to be sufficient for the other years as well.
The findings of this study, derived from the application of the proposed method to a port located at the East Coast Harbor in China, reveal that installing PRESs within the port meets a significant portion of its electricity demand, achieving a decent self-sufficiency rate of at least 47% contributed by the PRES.
