The Connections reform annex of the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan (PDF, December 2024) suggests that an additional 9-10 GW of rooftop solar could be deployed by 2030. The government has various schemes to support the installation of solar panels on homes.
The UK government has committed to around 30 GW more solar capacity in Great Britain's generation mix by 2030, as part of its Clean Power 2030 Action Plan unveiled on Dec. 13, 2024. Targeting greater solar deployment is just one of a raft of measures included in the 138-page plan published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
In December 2024, the government published its Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, which set how it intends to meet the 2030 target. This included a target for the installation of 45-47 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy by 2030, up from a current level of 16.6 GW.
However, this needs to rise to 43-50GW in 2030. (See: What clean power 2030 will look like). The government will therefore aim to secure at least 12GW of new projects over the next two allocation rounds. To enable this, the action plan sets out further reform to the CfD process.
