The pumped storage system of Argentine Republic is composed by two PSHPs: Los Reyunos that has two reversible turbines with 225 MW of installed capacity and Rio Grande with four turbines and 750 MW of capacity.
However, the ratio of turbine to pump time is taken as 6/8 on the conservative side. It is assumed that the LH-PHES can switch the number of operating CR-RPT instantly during the operation, as well as its single operating power output/input while maintaining constant total power input/output.
In Europe and Germany, the installed energy storage capacity consists mainly of PHES . The global PHES installed capacity represented 159.5 GW in 2020 with an increase of 0.9% from 2019 while covering about 96% of the global installed capacity and 99% of the global energy storage in 2021, , , .
By sorting the electricity price data from highest to lowest in turbine and pump mode and calculating the cumulative profit/cost for each mode, as well as converting the pumping to turbine time the most economic turbine time is at 8.24 hours/day. It results in a maximum profit of 32.95 M€/year (for a 100 MW unit) as shown in Fig. 23.
